Trustee Melissa Wilde is a proven leader and advocate for Violet Township. She has led on the important issues including finding creative ways to conserve green spaces, creating more transparency in the township and advocating for more solutions to keep our community safe and healthy.

Below is an outline of how she plans to build on those successes.

Conservation of Our Green Spaces

I will continue to investment in setting green space aside and working with land owners to find solutions to maintain large open spaces.

The Wigwam was just the first step towards halting development in an area prioritized for conservation. Conserving our natural spaces is not only vital for native species and wildlife, but for the health and well-being of our residents.

Conservation not only protects Violet Township’s greatest resource, it also allows us to slow the growth of homes and protect the integrity of our schools.

Adding connectivity through walking and bike paths

  1. Paths provide safe spaces for our kids to enjoy
  2. Paths provides health benefits to our community
  3. Paths provide safe options for active transportation when popular areas are connected

Improving Our Parks

I will continue to work on improvements to our parks that will benefit everyone in the community. I was excited to be a part of the team that set aside Busey Park for Celebration Park, a park for children and adults of all abilities. This park will be a safe place for our families to learn and grow and will provide a new space to meet new friends and to enjoy the community

The Wigwam is our first major partnership with Fairfield County Parks. Together we are creating walking paths throughout the wooded area and will soon add a shelter through this partnership. Partnerships with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will lead to the addition of a storybook trail and a scavenger hunt involving the history of this land. These features will join the Community Garden which was created in 2021. These community partnerships provide ways for residents to get involved in their community while also giving back.

Safe Communities

  1. The safety of our community is incredibly important to everyone. I will continue to support fire services (Violet Township Fire Department) as well as the work being done regionally through MECC RCOG (the Metropolitan Emergency Communication Consortium Regional Council of Governments) to create better services with lower costs to the taxpayer.
  2. The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department provides exceptional service to our area and I will continue to seek out ways to keep these officers engaged in the community.
  3. The health of our residents should always be important to the Trustees. That is why I was proud to support a partnership with Fairfield County to provide vaccinations closer to home.

A Government that Works Harder for You

Expand Transparency

As a Trustee, I have worked hard to work to create transparency for our residents and tax payers and will continue to do so when re-elected. You can easily find Violet Township financial records, ordinaces, meeting minutes and policies on our website and at https://violet.civicweb.net. You can also view meetings on our new YouTube channel.

Economic Developement

I will continue to work with regional economic development groups to advocate for and secure infrastructure and transportation projects, like an 1-70 to US-33 connector, that will help our businesses prosper and alleviate traffic congestion for our residents.

Community Partnerships

It is more important than ever for our community to pull together to deliver the services our residents deserve. I will continue to build on relationships I’ve developed with leaders in Canal Winchester, Reynoldsburg, Pickerington, Lithopolis and Columbus to deliver for Violet Township tax payers.
